Dear Meena Ma’am,

I hope this email finds you well and in great spirits.

I’ve been meaning to write for a while now … I remembered you many times this year, at various milestones, and finally felt compelled to send you an update on my time here at IISc. I cannot believe it has been four years!

These years have brought their share of challenges : working hard to secure a high rank in JEE, earning my place at IISc, my dream college, but through all of it, I felt prepared to face whatever came my way, thanks to the constant support and belief you showed in me during my years at school.

One memory I keep returning to: in sixth grade, I was hesitant to sing a Hindi poem I had written, in front of the whole school. You were the one who urged me to go ahead. That meant a lot to me. Since then, I expressed myself at every opportunity school offered: on stage, across disciplines, mixing different domains… always knowing that you were standing behind me.

The confidence you gave me has stayed with me here as well. Just yesterday, I presented a talk on aesthetics in science to researchers across the institute. And last month came a moment I will not forget easily: Demis Hassabis ,Nobel Laureate and CEO of Google DeepMind, was visiting India for the India AI Summit, and IISc was his first stop, being India’s frontier AI research hub. The dean selected me to welcome him on behalf of the institute and anchor his talk. Standing before an audience of 1,400 people, meeting a figure who has shaped the field I care most about – it was nothing short of a thrill!

In all these moments, I found myself thinking of the many times I stepped onto the stage at Bianchi Hall. And even this time, before I took a deep breath to begin, I imagined your smiling face somewhere in the audience.

Academically, I am pursuing a BTech in Mathematics and Computing, and exploring computational and theoretical biology on the side: applying AI, ML, and physics to living systems, sitting right at the crossroads of pure science and engineering. It is exactly the kind of mixing-everything-I-love that school taught me was possible. My cricket, music, reading, trekking, and art are all still very much alive too. You all gave me something I am genuinely grateful for: the conviction that you can pursue everything you love, with real depth…you just have to find a way.

I wish I had written sooner. The past three years were consumed by competitive exams and then the business of settling into a new city and a new life. But I am well settled now, and very happy …my course is rigorous in all the right ways and very rewarding.

I hope you, and everyone at school, are doing wonderfully. I look forward to meeting you the next time I am in Mumbai.

Dear Director Sir, Principal Ma’am, HODs, Sports Department, HRTs, Admin Team, Ancillary Staff, and everyone at our DBIS Family

Roarrrr!   It’s me, Little Dev Mandot, writing my first-ever email (with a tiny bit of help from Mum & Dad ) to say the BIGGEST thank you for making my very first Sports Day so special! 

From the moment we stepped onto the field, it felt like stepping into a magical jungle!  Seeing my friends dressed up as Giraffes, Monkeys, Lions, Tigers, and myself – the Zuzu Zebra Club  – was so much fun. But you know what made it even more special? The love, patience, and encouragement from all of YOU! 

The parade was fantastic, our yoga moves made the parents go “WOW,” and the races were super exciting (not just ours, but also the fun races for Dads, Mums, and even our super cool Grandparents! ). It truly felt like a family celebration where everyone belonged. 

And guess what? No podiums, no “winners,” because ALL of us were champions!  That made our tiny heart‘s so, so happy. Thank you for teaching us that every little effort matters and that we all shine in our own ways! 

Mumma and Papa say that the joy on our faces was the biggest proof of how much effort you all put in—from weeks of practice to ensuring everything was just excellent.

We felt it, we loved it, and we can’t wait to grow and roar even louder in the years to come!

Thank you for making my first Sports Day a memory I will always cherish.

Entering DBIS after attending a traditional ICSE school for many years felt like
stepping into a completely different world. Unlike the emphasis on academic
achievements in India, DBIS viewed education as more than just grades. The
teachers weren’t just instructors; they were mentors who supported our unique
talents and helped us understand ourselves as individuals. In our small classes,
we experienced a mix of diverse personalities and backgrounds, turning
learning into a collaborative adventure. Instead of just memorizing facts, we
questioned and analyzed them, using them to form our own perspectives. It
wasn’t just about an IB education; it was a DBIS education that taught us not
only how to learn but also how to unlearn—an essential skill that goes beyond
what any textbook can provide. DBIS didn’t just get me ready for exams; it
prepared me for life.

DBIS is where I spent the best years of my life. Not only did I make amazing,
lifelong friends but I also got the opportunity to learn and get educated from
the very best. The amicable and approachable nature of the teachers made my
experience at DBIS very special. Also what is DBIS without a mention of its
world-class sports facilities and it’s amazing sport faculty. We students tried to
find every excuse to run onto the turf for a quick game of football. Thank you
DBIS for giving me the best years of my life and all the best for the journey
ahead. Once a boscoite, always a boscoite.

Dear Edgar sir / Meena mam,

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding organization and conduct of the coaches Rajesh Sir, Miraj Sir, Nikhil sir, Tahir sir, Arjun sir, Gul Mam (apologies if I am missing any name) at the ISSO Tournament. The entire event was a testament to the dedication and hard work of the coaching staff and your team.

The coaches, in particular, played a pivotal role in shaping our kids and instilling valuable life skills. There were days when the girls / boys teams have literally cried, I saw each coach counselling them individually, boosting them up and also pushing them beyond their limits to get the best versions out of the players. The commitment to nurturing talent, fostering teamwork, and promoting sportsmanship was at its peak throughout the tournament. The positive impact they have on our students is immeasurable. There were so many small things, like there was always a coach / team member present at the dinning room to ensure every kid has had his / her food, they were given gadget time to destress and also had to put away the gadgets on time for the perfect sleep and resting time etc…… which I did not see in other school coaches in the hotels ( there were 2 schools In the same hotel that we stayed so could observe) and that made me feel Bosco is not just their school it’s our family.

Furthermore, the overall atmosphere and conduct at the tournament were exemplary. It was heartening to witness not only competitive spirit but also respect and camaraderie among all our teams, cheering for each other / fighting for each other. This is a testament to the values and principles instilled by our coaching staff.

I believe that the success of our school’s sports programs is a result of your leadership and the dedication of the entire sports department.

You have created an environment where our kids can thrive and learn important life lessons through sports.

To enroll our child into the IBDP programme at DBIS was one of the best decisions we took as parents. It is simply amazing to see how our son has transformed himself in front of our eyes. He is allowed to freely think and express himself.Teachers strive to go the extra mile to ensure children develop and grow every day. The collaboration and care between teachers and young learners must be seen to be believed.These young learners truly demonstrate a spirit of Co-opetition, where both Co-operation and Competitiveness co-exits beautifullyHigh caliber teachers make learning so meaningful that our son looks forward to each day in excitement.The Student-Teacher ratio for IBDP is extremely low, so personalized learning becomes a reality as each young learner gets special attention.The icing on the cake is the infrastructure at DBIS and the outdoor sports facilities….probably the best for any day school in India, thus ensuring true all rounddevelopment.DBIS is at the forefront in ensuring theseyoung learners become compassionate human beings who demonstrate sound values. As responsible citizens who will contribute in unique and very effective ways, DBIS’s IBDP programme ensures that these young learners are ready to take on the world.

Respected Mam, I Gunjan Jain parent of Pehel Jain would like to share my feelings regarding the Consultation meetings held on Zoom this weekend. We are still in the midst of the lockdown hence could not be physically present for the consultation but nothings seems to have changed at DBIS . Teaching and learning has continued with the same rigour although the classrooms are on the virtual platform . Like to appreciate the flow of school and the work done by all the teachers. Mam when I attended the consultation meetings it was just like the one we used to have during our regular school days . It was so satisfactory that it didn’t matter that we are not present in the school physically. I don’t know how the other schools function but I am proud to be part of DBIS. The manner in which the meetings were organised ,the timings , the punctuality and the flow was something which must have required a lot of planning by all of you teachers and the management . I am so confident that both my daughters are in your hand and feel so confident that they will learn the best as their gurus are the best. Thanking the whole Dbis team … Thanks a lot

One and a half months ago we saw ourselves at the start line of IBDP at DBIS. On that start line we thought Why IBDP at DBIS? Well, even though we are still just at the beginning, our reasons to choose DBIS were the following.. Firstly, DBIS upholds the values and ethos required to be responsible global citizens. Secondly, the DBIS team has been making sure that each child reaches his/her own highest potential by giving them lots of opportunities to discover their true capabilities and to do their best Also, this global crisis that we are currently facing, has not deterred DBIS from continuing with extra curricular activities, CAS,sports and celebrations! Be it MUN or PE or Celebration of the World Humanitarian day! The efforts put in by the teachers, actually guiding the students with their projects, career guidance and events, encouraging and motivating the children to become out-of-the- box thinkers, believers of hard work and to do more, is truly commendable. And of course, in academics too, the painstaking measures by the teachers to ensure that each child works along with them, is something we really appreciate. Lastly, the infrastructure at DBIS is the best we can get in our city. We truly have witnessed this holistic, overall growth and development in our daughter. It’s the efforts, love, & care showered on her from every single member of the DBIS family that has helped her progress so beautifully into the process of giving her best to everything!

Dear Fr. Crispino, Meena Ma’am, As we looked at the latest Almanac, we realised that it’s almost a year since Covid disrupted the usual functioning of the school. This year has been a topsy turvy one, though one where we as parents got a nice glimpse of the classroom and experienced how DBIS went about responding to an unprecedented situation for which nobody in the world had a ready answer. We take a moment to share a small bit out of the many things we learnt, and we highlight the one thing that stood out above all. First and foremost, it was evident that DBIS was unfazed and responded with a lot of careful deliberation and planning. Challenges were met with ingenuity, experimentation and bold steps forward; such as the online communication and interaction portals which made sure that everyone moves ahead in step and beat.DBIS maintained a high bar in academics, added several wonderful new teachers to the team and was possibly among the few schools on this planet which earnestly continued with their sports programme against all odds, in order to provide children with the opportunity and encouragement to stay fit. There must have been several setbacks and surprises, but each was met with resilience and nimbleness as the school always found a way to bounce back. It was delightful to see DBIS not just stick to its core values and beliefs but use them as a compass to navigate in these tough times. And, we certainly discovered what our teachers are made of. While everyone struggled to keep their wits about them, our teachers maintained high professional standards – while also managing their own homes and children in this chaotic time. Dear Father, a couple of years ago, we remember you speaking about the strenna of ‘accompaniment’ and its importance. We saw it demonstrated beautifully this year! Our teachers were right next to our children, without letting physical or digital distance come in the way. They connected and showed immense patience in following through whenever more help was needed. They have not just been teachers, but true caregivers. A year like 2020 can deflate anybody and each child must have experienced moments that brought a slump in their morale and enthusiasm. However, the routine of the school provided an anchoring of normalcy and the optimism and die-hard enthusiasm of the teachers and school leadership provided the much needed emotional recharge for the children and helped them pull through. We will never really fathom how bad things could have become had there not been the daily presence of teachers and the comforting mood and tempo they provided to the day. Calamities test Character, and we can say proudly that not only did we pass the test but discovered several treasures of mind and spirit that DBIS possessed, which may have been hidden to the outside world. In this small way, we express our gratitude to this indomitable spirit of our teachers – which has kept the flame burning bright. We look forward to ending this year on a high and after a well-deserved summer break, see DBIS emerge stronger, nimbler and more spirited. May the experiences of this year boost us for years to come! The IBDP is like an uncharted territory for many of us. The school has provided a detailed textured map to enable our children to find their way with the school’s aid. The experienced teachers are always at hand with the best of facilities even in times of constraint. The syllabus, while taxing, has inherent tools which motivate hard workers like my child to be involved in various extra- curricular platforms to explore all the facets of her personality. It makes her want to do more for her school, others and herself. We are satisfied with her progress and we are glad that she continued in DBIS.

Edgar Sir, I am Khyati (Riyaan Shah’s mother grade 3A)…I dunno what do I say it was a TREAT last evening to walk around the school and see kids play…we were always wondering how our kids play sports as v had never seen them play had only heard them say what happens in sports in school but to see them felt so so good…and sir STAMINA all the kids played 6 matches continuously n it was WOW!!! No school has this and if we think and feel proud about our kids it’s because of only ONE PERSON, HIS VISION HIS TEAM…you have worked on their well being, stamina, energy, sportsmanship, teamwork, how to be aggressive when ur on field and like a true sportsman congratulate the other team in case u lose…thank you so much for everything and really happy that we belong to this school and our kids have the privilege to get trained under you…IT WAS TRUELY A CARNIVAL which we experienced for the first time…

To the school, I have been working on this letter to all the teachers in my mind over past 4 months. I just haven’t been so sure how to put it across. Today I decided the best way to start is just begin. While world around is going virtual for our children, certainly one thing real for them are teachers, who are humans, humanitarians and preaching the practice of being humans to the next generation basis education. Here comes my two days of experience on the occasion of consultation record with Home room teachers as well as specialist teachers. An extremely well-planned virtual meeting coordinated by Ms. Meena Saldanha, Ms. Gladys Gonsalves, Mr. Edgar Mascarenhas and Team ICT led me to our specialist teachers. The punctuality, the patent of DBIS was well maintained in this online consultation too. The teachers were not only well organized about a particular student’s school dairies but also knew where exactly the problem exists and what improvising is needed. At the same time, they knew her or his strength story too. I was extremely impressed by the Home Room Teachers gesture of keeping the examples ready which is an exact area of concern. Most importantly, each teacher had maintained the decorum of warmth in spite of the day long job to address all the parents. Their approachability was fantastic. The whole process was virtual but it had a real school impact. Dear Miss Gladys,This is an appreciation post for our teachers, who helped our 4th and 5th graders participate in the Inter school Maths PBL organised by the IB PYP Mumbai network.We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to you, Ms. Meena, Ms. Roana and Ms. Namita for giving our kids this wonderful opportunity. The dedication with which the teachers helped the kids implement the project was absolutely delightful and something which will help them in their future also.We would like to especially point out the passion and commitment which Ms. Roanna bought to this project and along with Ms.Namita, paved the way for the kids to make a wonderful kitchen garden with the concepts of Maths so beautifully weaved in. Math is anyways a subject which our kids love, but the practicality of this project has elevated their skills to another level. We saw the kids really enjoying the entire process, and it was only Thanks to the efforts of the teachers.We are absolutely blessed and proud to be a part of DBIS. And one of the biggest strengths of DBIS are their fantastic teachers including teachers like Ms. Roanna (5th grade) and Ms. Sabrina (4th grade).Thank you once again.

Dear Ms.Meena ma’am,
I want to express my sincere gratitude for all the hardwork and efforts put in by our HRT’s Ms. Bharti and Ms. Jinal. They both have always been very patient and appreciative towards our children whether it’s being the online format or be it now as the kids are physically attending school.
Because of all the encouragement and the guidance that they give and this I speak for all my fellow parents…the kids are so confident in everything that they are doing and learning.
Also would like to mention… especially for today, during the passion project presentations…both our HRT’s were super helpful and so caring that we were very touched.
We will always be grateful to them and to you ma’am for all your support and kindness.
