Counselling Department
Overview
‘Emotional balance is an indispensable life skill that transcends academic achievement.’
At DBIS, we recognize that a student’s mental health is foundational to their overall growth, learning, and success. As an international school that values diversity, inclusivity, and holistic development, we are committed to nurturing not only academic excellence but also the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of every learner. We believe that every learner has the capacity to build meaningful relationships, achieve success across all areas of life, and experience fulfillment both within and beyond the school community.
Our approach to mental health is proactive, student-centered, and culturally sensitive. We strive to create a safe, supportive, and empathetic environment where students feel seen, heard, and valued. Through a range of well-being programs, classroom initiatives, counselling support, and community partnerships, we equip students with the skills and strategies needed to manage stress, build resilience, and form positive relationships.
We believe that when students feel emotionally secure and mentally strong, they are better able to focus, collaborate, and thrive — both in school and beyond. By prioritizing mental health, we empower our students to navigate life with confidence, compassion, and courage.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health is defined as:“A state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn and work well, and contribute to their community.”
Mental Health and Student Well-being
“Your mental health is more important than your grades. Take care of your mind — it’s the foundation of everything else you’ll build.”
Mental health is a vital part of a student’s overall development. It includes emotional, social, and psychological well-being, influencing how students think, feel, and act. It also shapes how they manage stress, relate to others, make decisions, and navigate daily challenges.
When students feel emotionally balanced, they are motivated, productive, and engaged in their learning, helping them improve their self-esteem, physical health, academic performance and form healthier relationships. This helps students make informed decisions, adapt to change, bounce back from setbacks, and develop resilience in the face of challenges. When students prioritize emotional well being, they empower themselves not just to cope, but to thrive — with clarity, confidence, and courage.
